Bradford City U18s 2 – 0 Rotherham United U18s

On Saturday we enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win over Yorkshire rivals, Rotherham United.

We were rewarded for the confident start in the fourth minute when we took the lead through James Pollard’s deflected header.

Rhys Jenkinson’s cross flashed across goal minutes later but Reece Webb-Foster failed to connect and Callum Chippendale’s free kicks in the sixth and 20th minute were both on target but were well saved by the goalkeeper.

Chandler Hallwood’s  long throw allowed us to break from a Rotherham corner on the half-hour mark. Sam Wright took the ball past the half way line and found Webb-Foster, whose perfectly timed ball was met by Sumali Cissa. However, he failed to convert with his attempt just narrowly missing the target.

A strong team performance saw us constantly pressing forward and working to regain possession.  The strong display meant Rotherham didn’t have too many chances in the first half, but the few they had were comfortably dealt with by our defence and goalkeeper, Chandler Hallwood.

After a convincing first 45 minutes, we continued to control the game in the second half. Danny Devine’s shot in the 47th minute was tipped away for a corner and Webb-Foster’s effort three-minutes later was well saved by the goalkeeper. Cissa’s long ball found Joe Brennan on the hour-mark where the winger showed fantastic ball control, but his shot went well wide.

We deservedly doubled our lead and secured all three points in the 69th minute when Webb-Foster’s looping header found the back of the net.

Throughout, we played positive football and didn’t sit back after the second goal. Webb-Foster’s header at the near post was pushed behind and Danny Devine’s powerful run and shot six minutes before the end saved by the goalkeeper

The team displayed an energetic performance and confidently dominated the game throughout.

Our next game is on Saturday 29th November at Hartlepool United K/O 11am.
