U18s: Bradford City 0 – 6 Notts County – Saturday 24th October 2015

By Sinead Cunningham

With our FA Youth Cup tie v Sheffield United on Tuesday (27th October), seven U16 players and one U15 were called up to the starting line-up for our league fixture against Notts County on Saturday. Despite a good first half performance from our young side, Notts County showed their maturity in the second and left 6-0 winners.

Notts County pressed from the beginning with their first attempt in the first minute going wide of the post and Hallwood made a strong save to deny their shot in the 8th minute. Notts County went 1-0 up in the 13th minute when their shot went into the back of the net.

Our first threat came in the 19th minute, Reece Powell did well to intercept in Notts County’s half and find Omed Gardezi who passed back to Powell, who forced a low save from the goalkeeper. Casey Taglione’s looping effort on the half an hour mark also came close, just going over the bar.

Notts County continued to press but Oli Kirkpatrick and Sam Wright, along with Hallwood in goal kept the score 1-0 at the break.

Hallwood’s foot prevented Notts County from doubling their lead in the opening minute of the second half however, minutes later they found the back of the net. A long ball from their defender saw them easily pass through our defence and beat Hallwood’s near post.

We were awarded a free-kick in the 63rd minute but it was headed back to the goalkeeper and moments later, in the 65th minute, Notts County scored a third goal.

Good link up play from Casey Taglione and James Sunderland saw Sunderland’s shot go just wide of the target in the 70th minute however, the away side scored their fourth goal in the 72nd minute.

Despite the scoreline, we tried to play and Taglione came close after he latched onto Sunderland’s flick on in the 81st minute but his strike was comfortably saved.

Slack defending gifted Notts County their fifth and sixth goals in the dying minutes of the game. Although it was a difficult game for our young side, it was no doubt invaluable experience for them.
