Match Report: Chesterfield U18s 3 – 4 Bradford City U18s (15th August 2015)

Following our 4-2 victory over York City last weekend, this Saturday, we travelled to Chesterfield for our first away game of the campaign.

We had the perfect start as Sumaili Cissa’s strike put us into the lead on 4 minutes. Taking full advantage of the goalkeepers’ weak clearance, Kesi Omolokun’s long ball found by Reece Webb-Foster who flicked the ball into Cissa’s path.

Chesterfield nearly equalised from the restart when their shot bounced of the post and apart from our goal, both sides enjoyed equal amounts of possession in the opening minutes.

We looked comfortable on the ball and doubled our lead in the 24th minute. Cissa’s through ball found Danny Devine who provided the perfect cross for Reece Webb-Foster to tap the ball into the back of the net.

It was an end-to-end game and both sides had their chances. The home side continued to press and made it 2-1 from a penalty in the 32nd minute. Despite conceding, we continued to threaten the Chesterfield goal, Omolokun’s header minutes later hit the bar and Webb-Foster’s free kick went just wide of the target.

In the last minutes of the first half, another Chesterfield player was fouled in the box and they were awarded a second penalty which they scored to make it 2-2 at the break.

Similar to the first half, both teams continued to push forward. The home side had the first chance of the second half and went ahead on 52 minutes through a fantastic strike.

Webb-Foster scored a penalty to equalise in the 65th minute after he was fouled in the box and less than ten minutes later we found the winner. Again, Webb-Foster took advantage of Chesterfield’s weak clearance and set up Cissa who nutmegged the keeper.

Overall, it was a strong team performance against good opponents. Next weekend, we travel to Lincoln City and hope to extend our unbeaten run.
